Today's square is standing on it's end and comes to you courtesy of PennDOT (that's the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for the uninitiated). When I first moved to PA I was convinced that the "STOP" sign was the state motto/symbol (every corner big or small had one) and that the reason why there were so many of them was due to a surplus of red paint at the road department! But lately, this sign seems to be giving those pesky STOP signs a run for their money. While on my way to help my friend Judy decorate for the holidays today, I found myself, once again, sitting in construction traffic staring at this sign. But then I realized it was just another square (albeit a sideways one) begging for its 15 minutes of fame on The 365 Project!
Lately I've been feeling that this is also a great depiction of my life. Now, don't worry, it's not as depressing as it may sound. It just seems that my life has never taken a direct route anywhere even when it seems I'm headed straight down the road! It's always got these interesting side roads that manage to come back to the main road eventually, lots of construction sites and the occasional STOP sign from my Heavenly Tour Guide. Sometimes it's been quite predictable (like a 25 mph speed limit sign in a crowded neighborhood) and other times, the vistas I pass by are amazing. Most of my close friends know that although I may appear meek and mild, an open highway, blue skies overhead, my favorite music playing and someone to visit can cause the speedometer to go slightly above the law, so when I get stuck in front of a sign like this one, I'm definitely frustrated! But I'm trying to learn that these moments as a good time to take a deep breath, be thankful for the interesting journey I'm on and relax. Oh yes, and to also pull out my camera and take a few shots.
You clever, funny girl. Your love of life just shows through on all of these photos. Love this, Ann. P.S. I'm still laughing at the Stop Sign being the state motto!!! LOL
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole- there's got to be an easier way to do it though. This took me about 20 layers of coloring. Boring!!! @cimes1 Thanks Carole- I try.
@olivetreeann - you need to take the photo in colour and then strip it to black and white and then rub out the black and white bit to reveal the colour, a lot faster.
@karenann (o: Thanks Karenann!
@sanera Much better explanation of the sign than its actual meaning Samantha! Thanks!
Great capture,
@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
There might be another road shot today as I will be running errands!
@prttblues haha Bev! Thanks!
@cimes1 Thanks Carole- I try.
