M

During the Middle Ages, the Roman capitals evolved into "uncials", a style of writing characterized by somewhat rounded capital letters, and then to Caroligian minuscules (small cursive script used in Frankish/German manuscripts of the 9th century) and Italic cursive script, which are the prototypes of many modern printed and handwritten letters.
