Lilies of the Valley are one of my favorite springtime flowers. We used to sing this song as a round when I was in Girl Scouts.
White coral bells upon a slender stalk,
Lilies of the valley deck my garden walk.
Oh don't you wish that you could hear them ring,
That will happen only when the fairies sing.
I'm so excited! The Lilies of the Valley I planted two years ago have tripled in number this year! This little cluster is growing just beyond a big group of them. And they're blooming quite early too.
this is one of my favourite flowers. when we used to live in the farm, they grew around the house and i'd gather them and place them in mini vases. partner's mother was quite pleased going into the bathroom with the strong scent of these flowers and they liven up the counter, too! love the processing on this.
Very pretty!
Did you buy the originals or did you get them from someone locally? I have tried a few times but without success :(
Someone said it's good to find someone in your neighbourhood who has them thriving in their garden and ask for some of the multiplied ones! I haven't done that yet!!!
Maybe I will try again! They are lovely!

Thank you Louise! Thank you Sarah! Yes, Sarah- I did get the "originals" from a friend nearby. So that may be the key. I've never had a problem getting Lily of the Valley to grow, but I am what I call a hand-me-down gardener. Most of the things I plant are transplants. In fact I'm better at transplanting things than I am at buying something at the nursery and planting it myself! I'm also not a "garden-scaper". I find a spot and plant- rather than think "oh this grows to such and such a height and blooms in the Spring..." So I have a hodge-podge garden to say the least! But I love it and constantly go out to see what's "popping up now". So, yes see if you can find someone who'll give you a clump. I started out with about a dozen and now there's at least 50 of them this year (2 years later).
@filsie65 Thanks Phil! @sangwann Thanks Dione! @geertje Thank you Geertje! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! Since I am a May Baby- they have a very special place in my heart- being the flower of May- and I too have memories of them springing up in the garden of my home and my grandmother (who was master gardener). @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole!
My apologies for a mass thank you! I'm fighting to keep eyes open!! So it's off to bed for me.
