I've seen some others' approaches to the Artist's Challenge and most of them are doing their own takes on some of his wonderful pictures. I felt my point and shoot could not do that justice, so I have tried to imitate his style more than his pictures, and that means capturing a slice of my life in quick clips and black and white shots. I wish I could get the clarity and sharpness of his photos, but that seems to be alluding me. I'm still going to try a couple more before we leave on Thursday. I'm enjoying this idea, but I'm still not pleased with any of my shots!
@kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @karenann Thanks Karenann- it still needs work. I don't think this shot was the right kind for my camera. Actually I think my "adieu" shot is sort of what I'm looking for, but his photos had the whole person. There's still a few more days to work the bugs out!
Is your camera just unhappy with certain lighting situations? There are just conditions I can look at and say that what I want is just not going to happen here.
@dmariewms Thanks Marie- yes. My camera definitely has a "sweet spot" for macro and shots like this. Also, I probably should have taken this in color and then turned it into a b/w. My camera seems to like that better for a shot like this. But it does take nice b/w when I do close up work. @tanja_1211 Thank you Tanja! I am getting better pictures now that I understand some of my camera's limitations. And that has actually made me a better photographer since I make better choices on what to shoot. Thanks for your confidence in me!! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
So you underestimate your P&S ... And your eye. You have a great eye, and I'm convinced that creative eye can often trump a camera's technical reach. That said, this is a great shot with fantastic contrast!
Ann I really like this shot but I find the end of your trolley a little distracting. It may have had a better line through the centre if the trolley was not there. (Hope you don't mind my suggestions)
@tklein Thank you Tina! @potsbypam Thank you Pam! @beachradish Thank you so much Beachradish. I truly appreciate what you have to say. I know my camera has a "sweet spot" and when I combine that with something I see and the way I see it, that's when I'm most pleased with a shot. For me, this one's almost there, but not quite. I think I wanted to be closer to the shoppers, but I didn't want them to know I was taking the shot! Plus I also wanted to be respectful since I didn't really have permission to take their picture, I needed to leave faces out of the shot. @digitalrn Great!! @sangwann Thank you Dione! @nicolecampbell No I don't mind at all Nicole. I would have to agree with you. I had already cropped some of it out, and left the point in so that it would draw the eye inward and place the viewer in the shot. But I'm not particularly crazy about it being in there either! @prttblues Thanks Bev!
