Polish artist Tamara de Lempicka was born into a wealthy family and studied art in Paris. Her works are considered to be "soft cubism" in genre and art deco in stylization. I particularly liked her still-life paintings, one of which I have imitated here.
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! I can't say I composed it myself as I was basically copying one of hers, but when I went to compare them I realized I didn't have it exactly. I guess that's a good thing in case there's a copyright on the material or something! @lisjam1 Thanks Lisa! It was quite challenging to get the same muted tones as her paintings. I'm sure in something like Photoshop it might be easier but I'm pleased with the results I got. Of all the paintings of hers that I looked at, I did like this one the best. It reminded me of the old still-lifes painted by the Dutch- simple and pleasant. And it was amazing to me that I had pieces of my own that matched her painting! @paulavdmerwe Thanks Paula! @groovygirlrn Thanks Sheri!
i thought it was a shoe-in for you to do this when i first saw the image a few days ago. it had 'Ann H. LeFevre' written all over it. but i was still surprised when i saw this; it made my heart skip a bit. great shot, ann.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! She had quite a few beautiful still-life compositions. It was hard to choose which one to do first. But this one won out with the key. I love old keys and had one that almost matched the one in her picture. @rhubbard Thanks Rich! I did doctor this a little. I left the shadow in but removed all the lines of the tiled backsplash. @digitalrn Thanks Rick! It's pretty close to the original painting.
Thank you Kimmi, Sally, Nicole and Dione. This artist definitely has her own distinct style and the still-lifes are quite lovely. It was fun pulling things out of my drawers and cupboards to pull off one of her pictures.
Sally- if you look up the current artist's challenge in the discussion archives the host of the challenge has listed a website of all her works.
@prttblues I hadn't heard of her either- but there was a website to check out her work and I pulled a few off of there and then set to imitating or copying them. This is a copy.
@automaticslim Thanks Andy! I can't really take credit for the composition since I was copying a picture by the artist. But yes, I found this one to be appealing. It's simplicity was very calming.
Fabulous!!!! Looking at it, I thought you actually photographed a painting of hers, but here you had put this together yourself to photograph. "How fun and so well done." I love still life.
@cimes1 Thanks Carole! I came pretty close to her original- I thought I might have it exactly, but when I uploaded it I realized I had the key too close to the cup and towel. Oh well, I'm happy with it the way it is anyway!
Thank you Kerri!
Thank you Colleen!
Thank you Beachradish!
I was trying so hard to match the colors but just could not get the same muted feeling. So I opted for this route. I'm glad you all approve!
