Fibonacci's Dream

I took a shot of a Coneflower (some of you know it as Ecchinacea) earlier this month and several people commented on the flower's center and its pattern- the Fibonacci sequence. This mathematical pattern gets its name from Leonardo of Pisa, who was known as Fibonacci. His 1202 book "Liber Abaci" introduced the sequence to western mathematics although it had been described in Indian mathematics before that. By definition the first two numbers of the Fibonacci sequence are 0 and 1, and each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two (ex. 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144,...).

I was inspired by @beachradish 's recent photos in which overexposure played a significant role on the shot's composition, color and processing. I shot this in sepia because I thought the overexposure gives the shot a dream like quality.

I am posting this ahead of time as Jeff and I heading to Connecticut tomorrow for a dear friend's wedding. And now it's time for me to go and dream my own dreams! Have wonderful Sunday and I'll be back on Monday.

I tired to grow Ecchinacea this summer and it never grow more than half an inch after germinating. Oh well, next year. The sepia and vignette look great.

Totally love this, Ann. I had no idea about the Fibonocci Secquence! All the interesting info that you put on here. Wonderful capture and beautiful color tones in sepia. Love the exposure ... totally.

@karenann thanks Karenann- I didn't either until three or four people mentioned it on the July 17th color shot of the same plant. After several people spoke of it, I had to learn what it really was!

@automaticslim Thanks Andy! Well, you know I always used to say to my sons, "All things are possible, but not always probable". So there's always a possibility that any given shot will be a hit with my followers- but it's not necessarily always probable! lol I'm glad you like it. I think I accomplished what I set out to do with this one.

i have come to the realization that my teachers when i was in school were not good teachers because i couldn't understand this fibonacci sequence at the time. now i read about it and the darn thing is so easy! :-)

@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I did not remember the thing at all and had to look it up after several people commented on it. I hardly remember anything I learned in Junior High, High School and even some college courses! Not a great testimony to the educational system here! haha.
