Artist Challenge- Margaret Bourke-White by olivetreeann

Artist Challenge- Margaret Bourke-White

You may have heard the saying, "The best made plans are laid to waste". Well, that would be an adequate statement concerning my day! We set out in the car this morning to go to church, where I had planned to shoot our clock tower for the Artist's Challenge, only to be turned back, not once, but twice. It seems that someone decided to hold a triathlon today and they shut off the two main roads we can take to get to church for the race course. OK, no problem, go to plan B. The only problem with plan B is that the photo I want to scan into my computer is nowhere to be found. I saw it back in early September when I was pulling out pictures of the World Trade Towers for a 9-11 tribute, but now, my odd but interesting shot of Lady Liberty is MIA, gone, nowhere to be found. After 2 hours of searching (and much confusion over how said picture could just disappear!), I decide to go to plan C. Out come the boxes of pictures again and after another 10 minutes of searching I finally settle on the above picture which was taken in circa 1990 while chaperoning a field trip for my younger son's 4th grade class. Originally in color, I converted it to black and white, gave it a little more contrast and added an edge to somewhat mimmick Bourke-White's stark black and white format. I'm pretty sure that since I did not take this shot during the challenge time-frame disqualifies it for the "competition". However, I did want to give this challenge a go and this was the only way I could do it since my original plan was way-laid by a countywide race that no one really informed me about!! Oh well, such is life in the Poconos!
Great pov

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
@mrssmith Thank you Carla! It was taken with my beloved 35mm oh so long ago!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! The one I really wanted to post was even further underneath and basically all you could see was her foot and the torch.
@digitalrn lol it did seem like that Rick! Funny thing though- after I processed this and looked back at Bourke-White's shot- this is more in line with her picture than the one I wanted to use. So now I'm happy with it!

oh, this breaks my heart. i was looking at the challenge rules and it says "entries must be taken between these dates". this is a shoe-in. and director george lucas here beside me has already decided his own 'magic 5' and this is one of them. methinks i shall send him to bed. that's a great shot, ann. and really, it breaks my heart!

@summerfield Oh please don't feel bad Vikki! I knew it wouldn't be a candidate when I opted to post it. I just wanted to 1) support my challenge buddy with a picture and 2) say I did it! After that mess up with the roads this am I was more than determined to at least put something up! I had originally thought of posting something reminiscent of her industry shots- but didn't have the right gears or spokes available. So then I thought I'd do the bell tower like her Chrysler Building shot, but that meant waiting until Sunday when we were at church and then the roads happened! Now it was too late to snap anything- so out came the archives. Really, don't feel bad! I'm happy with the shot anyway- and it brought back such good memories of my 35mm!

@olivetreeann - plus you wouldn't want to go through this again so soon, right? right? it still breaks my heart.

@summerfield You know me too well! Don't feel bad! Maybe in about 5 months we can start a "Resurrect and Redo an Old 35mm Shot" challenge which requires that the photo must be at least 10 years old and updated by processing and restoration!
