When I think of new growth I typically think of those beautiful tiny shoots that flowers send up when they first poke through the dirt. And I went outside with every intention of taking a picture of that today. But on my way to the garden, I noticed two little eyes watching me from the birdhouse! It was a Tufted Titmouse who'd taken up residence where the Nuthatches had nested two years ago. I tried to talk gently to her as I lifted my camera but she was too shy and took off before I could get a picture of her. So I took a couple of quick shots of the nest and lo and behold, there are four little blue eggs being tended to! So here's a different version of new growth- new tenants!
@olivetreeann I know what you mean... I've seen a blackbird dilligently taking bits of moss etc into the viburnum at the front of the house but don't dare to look. I think she's very brave considering I have 2 cats but then again I have a lawn full of moss so that might have swayed her judgement...! Fingers crossed on both nests :)
are you ever so lucky?!?! that's a great find! and it is a new growth, of course. she's probably looking at you whilst you were shooting her nest and her soontobe little ones. keep us posted!
@sgiesman Thanks Sarah! Someone was in the birdhouse again today, but I couldn't get a good look before she flew out of my ability to see details. I might try to sneak up at dusk and see if I can catch a quick snap!
Oh wow! What a wonderful surprise in the birdhouse! Great shot! Love the color and the detail! Excellent catch! It's a good thing she was shy or you'd not have found these! Nice job, Ann! :)
Now that was a surprise. when I saw them first I thought of robins eggs. we have a nest in the making in front of our window. this time it's being built by a pair of mourning doves.
I just saw my red light come on and there you are leaving me some comments. will go to it now. so we're talking to each other over 365 at the same time. have a nice evening.
@bruni Thanks Bruni! I'm not sure what is nesting in here! lol I have looked up all my "regulars" in my bird book and no one has blue eggs! I had thought about a Robin- but they are really too big for this hole. While out there today I saw a Bluebird- it's the third or fourth day this week I've seen them in the area of this bird house, so I'm wondering... maybe! I have to get out the bird book and see. Wishing you a lovely evening too! I'm posting my shots and then giving my husband a shot at the computer.
@anazad511 Thanks Ana!
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian!
I will do my best on the updates- my camera isn't the greatest for these kinds of shots and I don't want to freak out the poor mom!
Thank you Taffy, Kerri, Maggie, Dixie, Vesna, Sally, Dione, and Nicole! I'll make a visit each day so hopefully she'll get used to me- and my camera!
@summerfield Thank you Vikki!
I hope all is well. I missed seeing the Mama this morning- but I'll check later today to see if she was just out and about.
