Light Writing by olivetreeann

Light Writing

It seems I was either able to get the writing in the frame or me- but not both! This will be fun to play around with when the weather is warmer!!
Such neat light trails! How fun!

@gratefulness Thank you Sandi!

@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! I went out to YouTube and found 2 tutorials on how to do them. Basically, you open up the aperature and slow down the shutter (i.e. you make your camera record the light as brightly and slowly as possible without overexposing the light). I set the ISO to 80 (as low as my camera would allow). The fstop was at 5.0 and the shutter speed was at 6 seconds. First, you let the camera auto focus on the area where you are going to be writing, and then switch it over to manual focus. Then you set the timer at 10 seconds. Using an LED light, small flashlight (torch), or a light source with a smaller beam (the larger the light the more "bleeding" takes place and the writing becomes less distinct), but NOT A LASER (as that will damage your camera). When you're ready, push the shutter and make the mad dash to get in your shot. If you have a model helping out it eliminates all of the dashing! Get ready, wait for the shutter and when it clicks, start writing. Once the shutter closes, you'll be able to review your shot and make the appropriate adjustments. If you've got a view finder that swivels, you can turn it towards you so you can see what's going on as you write (sort of!). The reason my light writing looks a little squiggly is due to the light source- a kid's toy that whirls red, white and blue lights about in a plastic star at the push of a button. So the somewhat indistinct 3, 6, and 5 is what I wrote; the curly Q pattern in the writing is from the toy. I hope that answers your question!

@salza Thank you Sally! And the same to you!!

Very cool shot, Ann. I haven't even attempted light writing yet. I wouldn't know what to use to do it or how to even go about doing it in the first place. I think this was a great success. Fav

@prttblues Thanks Bev and thanks for the fav too! The instructions on how to do it are above and when I finally connect with Narlene and get that tripod to you, you'll be able to do one. All you need is a small flash light or led light- like one you'd have on a key chain. It's not hard. If I can do it, you can do it!
