There were all kinds of visitors taking in the sights at Letchworth State Park and lots of people taking pictures. The Park had signs posted in a number of places announcing they had been voted "Best State Park" in some kind of on-line survey. It didn't surprise me because it really was a beautiful spot. Folks were pretty friendly too. I had a delightful chat with these young ladies while taking some shots of the waterfalls. I'm pretty sure they are not Amish but I could be wrong. The head coverings are not the same and some of them had patterned material on their dresses. The Amish tend to cover more and live up to their nick-name "Plain folk" by only using solid colors.
Fav. The women in their dresses give this a timeless quality. We had a community of Mennonites in Virginia Beach who wore caps like these. i always admired them for living out their principles in a secular world.
@eudora@janiskay I think you are right but I didn't want to sound presumptuous! They are most likely what some call "Old Order" with the clothing and head coverings. I also know some Mennonites you dress in contemporary styles but very modestly. It is definitely an intriguing way of living out one's faith and like you Diane, I admire the commitment I see in them.
