It's the third week of Architectural August and since the last two weeks have been looking at the "big picture" of architecture with structures, I decided this week I'd focus on a particular detail- windows. I discovered that I like taking of pictures of windows because I had plenty to choose from when I went through my archives! So to begin with I decided to go back to Israel. Here we are looking through the window of Dominus Flavius in Jerusalem. This beautiful church is built in the shape of a bottle which was used for catching tears. Latin for "Our Lord Wept", it is built on the traditional site where Jesus stopped on His way in to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and wept for the city.
I took this shot on my first trip to Israel in the year 2000. I was struck by the way the window was positioned so that you could see the Dome of the Rock. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the Temple was there instead. If you look closely, you'll see that the window does not have glass in the rectangular section. I'm not sure why it is designed that way, but it does seem to make the city stand out from its surroundings.
I can't tell you all how grateful I am for your fabulous response, favs and views! As this place is very dear to my heart, seeing my shot on the PP is even more special! I am off to camera club tonight, but I will be back tomorrow to view your wonderful shots too. Have a great night everyone!
