McDade Mushroom by olivetreeann

McDade Mushroom

I went out to lunch with some friends today and on my way home I stopped off at one of my favorite spots on the McDade Trail to take a little photo walk. The weather was absolutely beautiful and I took quite a few landscape shots but as usual the "little things" caught my attention and I found myself taking close-ups of this mushroom. When I finally stood up with my camera, something caught my eye in the undergrowth. It was long, black and had two yellow stripes...SNAKE!! End of photo walk, hasty exit and rapid retreat to the car as fast as my arthritic hip could take me!
Very cool find. FAV!

Somewhere tonight, there's a snake telling his kids "That woman scared the scales off of me! My poor vertebrae!" Nice shot!

Terrific composition with great detail and textures! You need to know that snake was just as afraid of you as you are of him! If you had stomped your foot he would've gone the other way immediately!

Great close up.

Great looking mushroom and capture. Sounds like your snake was a harmless Eastern Ribbon Snake or a common garter snake.

Thank you so much for all the views, comments and favs- wow! I even got to see it on the PP! I can't tell you how much your support and encouragement means to me- but believe me it's huge!

@lindasees LOL!!
@alia_801 He usually pops by, so he probably will- although he might only be looking at the main album.
@grammyn I was not going to test that theory out. He wasn't moving, so I was not going to give him a reason to move!
@janiskay It seemed a little large to be a Garter Snake- I could see about 7 to 10" of him but no head or tail. But I wasn't going to inspect him either!
@aglennc This is partially eaten I think- not sure who was eating it, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the snake!
@nicoleterheide Maybe you Nicole, but NO WAY! for me! (o: LOL
