I landed on an interesting combo for the album cover challenge this time.
Artist: Here We Go Again- a country music standard written by Don Lanier and Red Steagall. It was originally recorded by Ray Charles in an rhythm and blues format but it has also been recorded by the like of Roy Clark, Nancy Sinatra and Norah Jones.
The album title comes from a quote by the Dutch-born American physicist and science historian Abraham Pais: Today we live in the midst of upheaval and crisis. We do not know where we are going, nor even where we ought to be going... The century now approaching its end has been... perhaps the most murderous one in Western history of which we have record. Yet I would think that what will strike people most when, hundreds of years from now, they will look back on our days and see that this was the age when the exploration of space began, the microchip was invented, revolutions in transport and communication virtually annihilated time and distance, transforming the world into a "global village", and relativity theory, quantum mechanics, and the structure of the atom were discovered, in brief that this has been the century of science and technology.
My first thought was to try and find a place that looked somewhat scientific but I really don't have access to anything like that. Then I remembered this shot of my father (on the right) when he helped advise the "Future Business Leader's Association" club in our home-town high school. He was so proud of this group. They put together a business from the ground up and earned an award from the business community. Here he is with one of the students working on the product they designed. I can't decide whether or not I like the sun flare. But it's there now so I'm leaving it. I thought it fit with the idea that a lot of people think science and technology hold the answers to all the world's problems, a view I think the title and the quote reflect.
I really like your choice for this cover, that is a classic photo of students and teachers in the 60's, I'm guessing. Your photo is the perfect play on words" for the album title(S). So well done, a fav for me. PS-I loved Ray Charles' version of "Here We Go Again"!
@henrir Thank you Henri! @louannwarren Thank you Lou Ann! Actually this is my dad so it's the 40's! Thanks for the fav! @onewing Thank you Babs! @wendyfrost Thank you Wendy! @salza Thank you Sally! Boy did I have a time searching for the effect that allowed me to put it there! Most of them wanted to go dead center and couldn't be altered. @grammyn Thank you Katy! I am really just a dabbler- I dabble until something works. @skstein Thank you Sandy!
My thanks to one and all- although I didn't get to see it there, I'm pleased Dad made it to the PP!
