We were headed home on I-75 climbing a small hill when I noticed a gray-colored cloud ahead. By the time we crested the hill, this was the view we were met with. A few minutes sooner and we would have been in the midst of it. We met some very nice people as we waited for emergency vehicles to bring the fire under control and clean up after the accident. The lady in the car in front of us actually had a brother-in-law working on the road crew so we found out that everyone got out safely, but that three of the cars had caught on fire. Two hours later when the traffic started moving and we passed by the accident site, I was shocked at how horrible the cars looked. They were just frames of crumbled charcoal! Since it was so much later, we decided to head back to Betsy and Christopher's and were blessed to spend one more day with our grandsons!
This looks awful. I can't believe everyone got out safely. Thanks heavens. I guess this is why I never leave home without three things -- my camera, my Kindle (stuck in traffic for two hours, I can get a lot read!), and my cell phone.
Terrific photo of what could've been a serious situation. So glad to know that you were not in it because it looks very close to where you were parked. Sorry It delayed your plans but good to know that you got a chance to spend extra time with your family
Glad to hear that nobody was seriously injured. Quite a scary scene to come across. A good thing that you were still close to the family and that you could return to them for an extra night.
Wow. Great capture. This should be sent to the newspaper. I'm so glad everyone got out of this pile up in one piece. I hate seeing roadside accidents that are all crumpled and burnt because when there are no people around I always wonder if they are okay and then I think good thoughts and tell myself that they are.
Thank you everyone- yes, seeing the cars but knowing that all the drivers and passengers got out safely was good because if I'd just seen them I would have been certain that no one survived. At times the smoke was so black and thick (probably when all 3 cars were burning) we were certain that it was fatal. And although it was a slight inconvenience to wait, it turned out to be long enough Jeff decided to stay one day longer (something I'd wanted to do from the beginning!).

Thank you Henri!
Thank you Kathy!
We were just happy that we had not been in the middle of it!
