According to Jane, my friend the science teacher, black squirrels are merely mutations of the gray ones. Right now I have two of them who play in my backyard but unlike their gray counterparts I never see them trying to raid the bird feeder. Interesting!

You have a black squirrel! I've only seen one in Michigan when I was a student there decades ago. I like his contrast to the whiteness of the tree.
