Most of the outside work is done- just a little clean-up here and there is needed and a concrete sidewalk. Inside, the inspections are proceeding and the final electrical work is being done. We're all looking forward to when the new elevator can actually be used!
They have done a terrific job of making this addition blend in so well. That could not have been an easy task. I like your photo that shows the nearly completed project because I was struggling with envisioning what it was going to look like
@ludwigsdiana This is the back of our church. It is actually an addition to the original building which is a gymnasium that has a full service kitchen and rest rooms. It is deceiving- the church is massive! The elevator is replacing a small, and I mean small! but faithful walk in lift that can only handle two people at a time. This one will have room for more people and also for those with walkers or wheel chairs. The lift is immediately to the right when you walk in those white doors. the rest of this foyer houses as set of broad stairs for those who can walk up and down them.
It has long been a desire for this congregation to replace the old elevator which has served its purpose many times over. But for today's handicap needs it's way too small. A person with a walker can use it but it's hard to get them in and out easily. If someone is in a wheel chair, it's nearly impossible and actually frightening because it's so small. It took the congregation almost 10 years (before my employment there) to come to an agreement on where to attach a new elevator that would be more useful and accessible to the physically challenged. They finally broke ground last August and hopefully it won't be too much longer before we can officially use this one!
