Waiter by onewing

Waiter

I was taking this photo of a walkway at the National Library in Canberra when a waiter wandered into the picture. Thought it added a bit more interest to the scene.

Sharon asked why was there a waiter in a library, but I should have explained. The National Library of Australia in Canberra is a huge building and it was there where we went to see the Mapping Exhibition. The ground floor of the library is where the exhibitions are and also there is a book shop, a restaurant etc and just to the left of this picture is an outside area of the restaurant overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. This chap was delivering meals and drinks to the people sitting at the outside tables.

I agree it is lovely with the waiter

The waiter is definitely a very important part of this photo, with his white apron and black pants that just go so well with the white and black walls.

Your lines can't help but make him important! What is a waiter doing at a library?

@ourrube @yaorenliu @kporte @joeyc @debilz @angelat @hermann Thanks so much. I was just lining up this photo when the waiter walked by, so only had a second to take the shot. The timing definitely worked in this instance. I suppose I c ould have waited until he went back again and he probably did, but I was on to the next photo by that stage and also it was 39 degrees that day so I wasn't planning on staying outside for too long.

It looks as though the waiter is about to drop stuff! nice capture!

You timed that perfectly, he is bang in the middle Babs. Really takes your eye right to the bottom of the corridor.

You're absolutely spot on! The waiter makes the scene zing in all sorts of ways. Great shot. PS I know that eating area and it's lovely.

@golftragic I agree Marnie it is a lovely spot, but the day I took this photo it was 39 degrees so I didn't stay outside too long.

@nicholas @happypat @eyesmile @dolphin @sunraye @cljs Thanks for all your lovely comments and so sorry for the group reply. A bit of a busy couple of days here. We were out last night for dinner. Today I have been figuring out the next few months of events, workshops and theme categories for our photo club with our other events co-ordinator and now it is almost dinner time. Will try and catch up with everyone's photos later tonight.

a great B&W shot babs, love the different tones and lines that lead you to the busy waiter at the end :)

How wonderful. I like the idea of a waiter in a library, who can bring you food, drink and a really good book.

@heidihp Thanks Heidi. I was lucky he just whisked by.

@mercuria Thanks Ariel. This part of the National Library, Canberra is where the exhibitions are and we were there at a Mapping our World exhibition which was fantastic. There is a restaurant in this area too which includes an outside area where you can enjoy a meal overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. A beautiful area, but the day we were there it was 39 degrees C, so a bit too hot to sit out for me.

cool shot

@lafish Maybe a cool shot Laurie but a bloody hot day. It was about 39 degrees C (102 f)!!!

Great capture, the waiter makes the shot really interesting. It is a great spot to go to but anywhere outside is not great in this heat. I try to walk around the lake at least 3 times a week, it's my favourite place in Canberra.

@cathy366 Thanks Cathy. It really is a beautiful spot I agree. We were lucky to hear the Carrilon recital too while we were there. Never heard it before. Fantastic. I love going to Canberra, but it was just a bit too hot outside this time. Hope it has cooled down now.

My sort of picture. Such timing! He makes it. And straight verticals. Sounds like a place we'd really enjoy to visit. Fav.

@ivan Thanks for the fav Ivan. I always enjoy going to the exhibitions in Canberra. I was just lucky the waiter breezed into the shot. I wasn't outside too long this particular day though as it was 39 degrees C.
