Who's great idea was it to try and turn back the tide?

Today's people picture reminded me of King Canute trying to stop the waves.

This could be a re-enactment. It didn't work this time either.

Today's Port Stephens photo

Terry (Poppo Livy) @terryliv asked what these chaps were actually doing and I thought I had better put it in here what they were up to.

They are scoring the Navy Australian Surf Rowers League races at Stockton Beach http://365project.org/onewing/365/2014-02-09 This picture shows the races. I am not sure if they were expecting the tide to come in when they set up the platform though.
So what on earth were they doing babs?

it just makes me smile.

They look totally nonchalant ,maybe they haven't noticed the tide has come in:-)
March 28th, 2014
Haha, very funny. Are they spectators? They don't seem to worried.

Not exactly -" three men in a boat " is it --ha ha !! --it really made me smile !!-- and they say women gossip !!

What a great place to take a photo from. Were you not tempted Babs.

I would be nervous sitting there with all that water around......great scene though!
March 28th, 2014
Oh boy, looks like they're a little surrounded there hey? They seem quite content with in this shot so maybe they don't really mind aha! A wonderful capture! :)
March 28th, 2014
wow i wouldnt want to be in that position
March 28th, 2014
Love this with the splashing waves! I'm glad you explained what they were doing... I was sure wondering! Great capture!
March 28th, 2014
Great capture.

Oh so cool!!! Love the pov and comp here. The wave action and blue water surrounding those colorful characters are great. I think I said this before....you should put together a "coffee table" book on your people shots. They are great!

When i first saw your shot I thought they were lifeguards. if so, I'm not going to that beach.
Super shot and composition. Wonder when they'll notice the tide. LOL
March 29th, 2014
I love you capture of the crash of the wave.
March 29th, 2014
Would they actually notice if the water was rising as they seem deep in conversation! Neat timing Babs.
March 29th, 2014
fantastic shot! great action shot with the waves
March 29th, 2014
@yaorenliu Good that it made you smile.
March 29th, 2014
@hermann I think they were probably commenting on the scoring of the boat races.
March 29th, 2014
@888rachel They were scoring the boat races. It was the Navy Australian Surf Rowers League at the surf club in Stockton.
March 29th, 2014
@beryl They do look to be having quite a chat don't they.
March 29th, 2014
@gamelee I don't think they would have let me climb on there, they were judging the boat races.
March 29th, 2014
@happypat @lilminimonka @pittcj17 @lynnz @wanabe It isn't quite as dramatic as it looks. The sea had only just gone past where the structure was and the tide doesn't come in much further than that, so they weren't going to drown. Not sure if they were expecting the tide to go past them though, it must have been out for them to put the stand up.

@eyesmile Good idea to put a people book together. Will look into it. Deb is putting together a book for our 365 pics from last year. Will check out with her how she has gone about it.

@kathiecb Thank God they are not lifeguards. ha ha. The tide doesn't come in much further than where they are, but as they were judging the races I suppose they had to be in that position. Not sure if they were expecting to be surrounded though.
March 29th, 2014
@crawest @elaine55 @lafish Thanks. They weren't too far away from the beach and the sea had only just gone past them. Not sure if they were expecting to be surrounded though. Luckily the tide doesn't come in much further and then it turns again, so they shouldn't be stranded for too long.

quite a fun shot that! I'd hate to be there when it toppled over in a big wave though!
March 30th, 2014
Fun! Lovevthe blue of the water and crashing into the platform...I suspect they got a little wet ...teehee....
March 30th, 2014
They're going to get wet shorts soon!

@angelat @ourrube @angelar I think they were okay as the tide doesn't come in much further than it has here and it wasn't too deep. At least they are in the right place, there are plenty of lifeguards on hand in case of emergencies.
