How did that happen

I photographed this tree when we were out on our bus trip a few days ago. You can't see a join, so I don't know how this happened.

You don't see a branch with a hole in it very often.

@hermann I really can't figure how it got the shape it did.

@pcoulson You could be right Peter. I am not sure they get Polo's out here though. Didn't when we first arrived, but maybe they have them now.

@flyrobin @tonygig @leestevo @tracelee Thanks. It did look rather odd.
June 3rd, 2014
@karlow75 Me neither. Can't imagine how it got that shape. Limbs have been lopped, but that still doesn't account for the hole in the middle.

@onlyme111 Thanks Gaylene, it is a strange find.

@loweygrace @jackie8 @dolphin @quietpurplehaze @dgrynn @angelar @kwind
Thanks so much. It is some sort of gum tree and the bark sheds all the time. How it ended up with the hole in the middle though I can't figure.
@happypat The nobs on there are limbs which have either dropped off or been lopped. Gum trees lose their limbs frequently especially ones which are near the ocean which this one is.

Perhaps this is the origin of the "whistling wind".
June 4th, 2014
How unusual. Perhaps a tree that was growing next to it?
