Today’s photo was taken from the pedestrian bridge in the centre of town.
Newcastle station is the main railway station in Newcastle, New South Wales. It is the terminal for NSW TrainLink services to Gosford and Sydney on the Central Coast & Newcastle line and to Maitland, Muswellbrook, Scone, Telarah and Dungog on the Hunter line. It opened on 9 March 1858
I believe now that its days are numbered and it is rumoured that it is to close at the end of the year.
You are right, I have read that too. Trains replaced by buses from Broadmeadow I think. It will free up a lot of valuable land, but I like the old railway running through town!
I haven't seen Newcastle in the sunshine! It absolutely poured the one day we were there. We had a picnic in the car! Must go again one day and enjoy this view!
Lovely photo. That would be such a shame for it to go. I would have thought trains would still be a better option then buses. Looks like a great place. :)
@eyesmile Thanks Gena. No this isn't my town. Newcastle is about 60 km from where I live, but it is our nearest city. Where I live is also by the sea, but much quieter than this.
@tomtom Most people seem to transfer from Broadmeadow these days I think and also if we go into Sydney on the train we take the train from Broadmeadow too. Easier for parking and free.
