We walked along the river embankment today and I took my 100-400mm lens as I thought I would be able to capture BIF shots and also shots of the swans. I did get some lovely shots which I will probably share later this week but I suddenly spotted some gypsy horses in a field beside the river and I thought I would share these with you. I was horrified to see the state these horses were in - covered with mud and their coats matted. How can someone leave these horses to get in such a state? They had such beautiful faces and definitely needed someone to love them!!
Oh dear Pam that is sad. I know nothing about horses, cows yes but anyone can see this isn't right. They don't look thin which is a blessing so not much to get them cared for again...a good brushing would be an improvement. I thought gypsies were very proud of their horses.
My heart goes out to these poor creatures. Oh gosh...it reminds me of a horse I 'rescued' (paid reasonable amount at the time for the horse and the owner agreed I'd get a refund if it didn't survive the month). Horrible situation for the horse, but I gave it daily doses of penicillin, tons of food -- she gained 300 pounds over the winter -- and she turned out to be quite a wonderful horse. I don't know how someone can own a living thing and then let it live like this.
Those mats must be pulling so painfully at their skin. I agree that this should be reported. Cruelty to and neglect of our fellow creatures make me see red.
Oh, no! I hope someone steps up to care for this beautiful creature. One really nice thing we noticed, while traveling north by train in the UK recently, was how many of the horses were blanketed and well cared for, even while outside in their fields.
Oh dear, I think I would keep an eye on these - it looks like they have been rolling in burrs of some kind (biddy-bids, we call them) but they definitely could do with some tlc. Good photo.
