I spent the morning with my friend Simon Watkinson who is a professional photographer. He was showing me how to use my new Ice Light to do portraits. This is his partner Tammy who is a professional model and was so kind to sit for me as Simon was showing me how even a slight movement of the light made a huge difference. We had a long discussion on where the eyes should be as I kept putting them in the centre. Simon says either on the third or above. This was one where I managed to get the eyes right!!
I was so lucky that my friend Fiona gave me a light meter yesterday and it was just what I needed. So much to learn but great fun. I hope I can remember what to do when on my own. Also will I be able to find a model willing to sit for me?
What a lovely portrait and beautifully filled in light! So you're going to show me how to do this and I'll teach you layering and collage? I have to say I was thrilled to read Simon's suggestion about eye placement! I often close in on the face and cut off some of the head...it what I like...but some people tell me I shouldn't cut thatoff! Now I feel vindicated!
