Cottingley Town Hall Church by pcoulson

Cottingley Town Hall Church

As part the Bradford photographic group I visited the Cottingley Town Hall Church, on a very grey day
First it was never the town hall as Cottingley was a small hamlet 5 miles north of Bradford in 1865 when it was built as a Church and School, it is still in used as a Church today, two of the most famous children from this school were Elsie Wright (1901–88) and Frances Griffiths (1907–86) these two young ladies were the ones that photographed the fairies at the bottom of the garden in 1917 foxing even the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, see attached link to find out more. http://hoaxes.org/photo_database/image/the_cottingley_fairies/
Beautiful details on the building and glad it is used as a church now. Also enjoyed the history lesson.

Lovely shot and thanks for the link. I knew about the Cottingley fairies but a while ago on one of our many many repeats of Antiques Roadshow on TV I saw this link about the fairies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WX1BhKxSYQ

Such interesting info about the fairies and I find it amazing that the girls fooled so many people for so long. I can understand the need to believe in fairies in certain situations! (And were the girls politicians in the making, I wonder....)
