So this is the Beach Lighthouse with the Pharos (Upper) Lighthouse, slightly inland, in the background. They were positioned so that ships in the River Wyre Estuary could use them to triangulate their position to enter the mouth of the River Wyre safely, even in the dark.
Fleetwood, and its lighthouses, were established by one of those energised and enlightened Victorian entrepreneurs, Peter Hesketh Fleetwood (1806-1866). The expense of his ambitions outdid him, and he lost most of his fortune in the process. However, he did leave a significant legacy in the form of the town, port and its lighthouses.
Many thanks for all of your recent comments and favs, very much appreciated.
NB For those who have spotted the chap drinking a cup of something in one of the porticos of the Beach Lighthouse, he was a bagpipe player, who was regaling everyone passing with his versions of famous bagpipe melodies. He took a little break as I started taking photographs. I am a great lover of the bagpipes (I wish I could play them, but then, I wish he could play them as well!).
This is an extremely attractive structure - when I was there it was rather hard to get a shot since workers were resurfacing the road! This is a well executed shot - fav!

Maybe you could ask the piper to play "Over the hills and far away"..... ;)
