Bit pushed for time, had to pop down to the local supermarket, suddenly saw this candid shot. Not the best shot in the world, but an interesting observation of the modern world. Now they even have us doing the check out work!
Thanks for all your recent comments - appreciate every one!
Fortunately that's not very common yet, not in Finland anyway. Although I have to say when I go to the local IKEA, I always use the self service line. Great observation and indeed it says something about the world in 2013.
The Future promises More Self Service where ever we go. I am finnishing work at 2am and need to get petrol. I will be buying it from a machine run station , aka self service pumps. Like this picture , especially the 4 windows, with window 4 being people free just the checkout waiting !
I like self service pay at pumps. Hate the self serve in shops though! If I buy 30 cat food sachets I have to scan all 30, not one and hit a 30X button. Plus plastic knives need an assistants confirmation I am a responsible adult - and I have never yet got through without some other new problem.
Like the shot though :)
Interesting. My eye read this differently. I'm drawn to the guy in bright yellow who is sitting down and the "self service" sign. I immediately imagined him serving himself a relaxing moment off his feet- in a bubble away from the hubbub. You have me a whole story- just a little different from the intended one. Nice!
Love the 'framing' self check out is fine until its alcohol!! always get confused in the m&s one though!! and I'm not the only one, loads of people scratching their heads and looking around manically for help!!
I think it works really well.
Like the shot though :)
