Last year I received a birthday gift of a day 1-2-1 with the official photographer at Port Lympne Wildlife Park - located on the south Kent Coast (and pronounced "Lim"). With Covid-19 lockdowns, the park has been closed to the public for most of the last year but has recently re-opened. I spent a very enjoyable day there yesterday with David Rolfe, photographer, who has been working with the Aspinall family, founders of the park, for over 35 years. He gave me some great advice and guidance on filming animals and was also a great fount of stories from his life as a photographer filming animals all over the world.
The Aspinall Foundation, who now run the park and associated activities, are very committed to re-populating threatened species in the wild, and have a breeding programme for these lowland African gorillas, black rhinos and others. So far, they have released 8 black rhino, 135 primates, 11 European bison, and over 70 western lowland gorillas back to the wild.
I'll post some more shots from the day over the next few days.
What a super present - and what a day to remember for you. This organization is doing such an important job - you were so lucky to be able to spend a day with their photographer. So many wonderful images..... :)
