I googled 'Peter Elmslie, Happisburgh' & what I found was interesting but it didn't say! ( copy and paste on an iPad is not yet in my repertoire....)

Manure was very valuable before the prodution of artificial fertilisers. Many people got rich from it!

@quietpurplehaze Hazel, it is modelled on a LNER prototype, so Norfolk would fit. You probably found out about Peter Elmslie, I was told he was the guy who originally built the locomotives and rolling stock, and the "manure merchant" was intended as self-mockery!

Peter Elmslie is definitely a chap with a sense of humour.

@peadar

Yes, I found a little obituary for Peter Elmslie who was, I think, quite a character: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/96694-peter-elmslie/ manure was probably well in his vocab!
