I came upon this haunting vista on a trip to the mountains recently. The water of a reservoir had receded to reveal the remains of a forest long lost to man's intervention. The heavy cloud cover and flat lighting seemed to accentuate the somber mood of the scene.
Wow! I grew up in Alaska and saw many mountains scalped by logging but I have to say it was nothing like this. Although the mountainside was stripped there was plenty of underbrush to support regrowth. This scene though is mind-blowing. Incredible image.
@hinaansari Hi HIna, Thank you for your comment. The nice thing about the 365 Project website is that you can do with your project whatever you like to do. Some people are very strict (and disciplined!) about posting a photo on the date it was taken. Others are more relaxed. In my first year here, I (mostly) met that goal but am now taking a more easy going approach. This particular photo was taken on November 9th and posted to November 9th on my project. I am behind in editing! Anyway, long story short... do with your project what suits you best. Good luck and have fun!
Somber scene, well composed, captured and presented. It's a graveyard of trees. Just think, the pines in the distance have known their brothers were there all along.
@stuckinoz Hi Janelle, Thank you for your comment. This is a single image. I processed it in Lightroom to adjust for all the basic things like exposure, contrast, etc. I then took it into OnOne and applied the "Dynamic Contrast" tool which is like clarity but more refined to the different parts of an image. I really like it for landscapes. Finally, I used Alienskin Exposure 6 to tweak the color although I don't think much was really changed there. Can't quite recall. :) That's my usual run through though. I hope that helps!
@barbtatum Oh! What a coincidence. Since you are familiar with the area... more specifically, this is part of Cascade Reservoir located between Cascade and Tamarack.
