This picture of Anif was shot at the same time as my stranger number 7, Steve.
Anif and Steve were part of group of fans stood behind a table outside the "fans zone" at the Macron Stadium, the home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club. It was a local action group from Bolton, who were making the public aware of two issues i.e Racism and the Refugee crisis occurring on the borders of European countries.
When I saw the group I knew I could get a good portrait. I approached the group asking them if I could take a photo. They asked me to take a 'whole group scene', which I did.
I then asked Asif if I could take his picture. Initially he was reluctant , however the group encouraged him to do so and after a bit of banter and joking with his friends he let me take his picture.
Anif's Bolton accent was as broad as his smile.
I showed him the picture and asked his name and then shook his hand and them thanked him for his shot.
I then went onto shoot Steve who was portrait number 7
The RAW file was edited in Rawtherapee and I added a Fuji Superia 100 film emulation to the shot.
This picture is number 8 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
This is a project I am fascinated by. funny because as a substitute teacher I always get up in front of strangers and demand attention but in the r best of the world I'm pretty insecure.
EXcellent capture Phil. So glad he was willing to allow you to take this. What a great smile he has, I hope he was happy with it. Love the light in his eye and once again, such clarity!
Fav for this one - I love his smile which begins in (or extends to) his eyes, the way you have him off-centre in the portrait, also the colours and textures.
I admire you on your capabilities of going on to strangers, asking to take their picture and end with them giving you a big smile. You are so good at this.
@sangwann Dione you can do it too, the camera does most of the work and people are usually really happpy to pose :)
@nickspicsnz thanks for your words and continued support nick
@quietpurplehaze thanks haze, i am pleased with this as it is my first stranger done in landscape format :) One flickr poster suggested I clone out the little vertical line / pointing on top of Anif's head, which once you have seen it then it seems so obvious to do :)
@annied so far so good annie, my eclectic mix might struggle as we progress :)
@eyesmile thanks gena, the camera does most ogf the work :) :)
@pandorasecho thank you dixie , very kind of you to comment :)
How strange and yes - I didn't even notice that vertical line but now you've pointed it out my eye is totally drawn to it. I like the landscape format which is always my preferred over portrait for photos although I can't really explain why.
Nicely done as always, Phil. He looks very relaxed which, especially because he was intially reluctant, is quite an achievement. You have an admirable knack of putting your subjects at their ease.
@paulaw thanks pauls that is very kind of you
@ivan thank you for your visit ivan
