Followers of me will probably know that I support Bolton Wanderers of the English Premier League.
Sometimes my friend and I go and watch local semi proffessional football (soccer) matches and on Tuesday evening we nipped up the hill to Mapperley Plains to watch an East Midlands Counties Football League game betweem Gedling Miners Welfare FC and Heanor Town FC.
The quality of football on show is actually quite good, the players are part time i.e. they have full time jobs and get a small match fee for playing.
Although the team is named Gedling Miners Welfare, the local coal mine was closed many years ago (1991), but the football club still lives on.
Anyway on to the photo....shot under floodlights with my little Panasonic TZ7...I could not do an action photo as the floodlights are not particulary strong, so I popped my camera on the perimeter fence and grabbed a few shots. It was not completely dark, so the dusk sky kept some nice colour.
Gedling are in the yellow jerseys and Heanor in the white. The match finished 2-2 and the official attendance was 106 spectators and two dogs (a lurcher and a little spaniel were spotted watching with their owners). Not bad value for a 4-00 GBP admission fee.
Anyway, I've done a long narrative for a little picture. Hope it meets with your approval.
oh great shot under floodlights (always adds excitement), with lovely sky. Only critique is that there is no ball in the shot..but its i still like this!
@patsyjphillips Thanks Patsy, I'd love to go to an American sports arena to see football, baseball etc. , just to experience how sport is played in a different country.....not that I understand the rules of either of those two US sports :). I understand basketball rules though :)
@sleepdozer57 Thanks Peter, I did try a couple of pics with motion and tghe ball in them but the players just turned out as ghostly blurs in the frame. The floodlights are adequate for spectators to see, but not really good enough for sports photography.
In this scene the playes are waiting for a free kick to be floated across, I wanted to capture a wide angle showing what a non league ground looks like :)
@gill aww thanks Gill, I like the vibrant colours, I'll probably have some more football pictures in the next week as I have a few football matches coming up :)
Heanor is quite a big town to be playing so far down the pyramid structure
