We've just returned from a holiday in Cala Mesquida in Mallorca. Trying to add a stranger to my project in a foreign country offers different challenges than at home, with language barriers (well my inability to speak Spanish)
Meet Carmen who managed the poolside / swim up bar at our hotel. We've stayed at the hotel before , but I'd never met Carmen on our previous visits.
Carmen has worked at the hotel for 4 years and in the resort for 9 years (the village has four hotels and this is the second
hotel she has worked in)
I asked Carmen if she was from Cala Mesquida and where she lived (the village is very remote). Carmen told me the staff had rooms that they stayed in.
Carmen was a really friendly lady, always smiling, and very hard working, I hope I have captured her beautiful smile and personality.
I decided to do a mono conversion for this shot as the multi coloured row of bottles distracted the viewers eye away from Carmen. The bottles are an important part of the photos story.
I told Carmen I would email the photos to the hotel so she can keep them. She liked them when I showed them to her on the back of the camera.
Thank you for being stranger 168 Carmen , good luck for the long summer at the hotel.
