This is a difficult write up. I consider myself a street photographer, preferring my "stranger" photos to tell the story of the streets.
However, most weekends in Nottingham there are demonstrations regarding the situation in Gaza. Pro-Palestine demonstrators meet in the city centre calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
I took some photos of the demonstrations. I asked this young lady if I could take her photo.
It's a very emotional topic, dividing politicians, people and families.
People are horrified by what has happened in both Israel and Gaza. How humans can behave in this manner is beyond belief. I think that's allI need say on the subject.
As John Lennon once said "All we are saying is give peace a chance"
I hope the above narrative doesn't upset my 365 friends, this is just a reportage photo of life on Nottingham's streets in 2024
I appreciate and agree with your comments Phil. I'll never understand people's inhumanity to each other. It's heartbreaking and devastating. Nice documentation of the protest.
As Spock would say, " the situation is totally illogical," but most people are ruled by their emotions and allow their feelings to overrule their heads. You captured the emotion very well. Unfortunately, as long as emotions rule, peace and logic will not prevail... And on that note - Vulcans Rule! Heh.
your project your choices Phil. I like this doco style image and nice choice for black and white. I think its lovely that you are so considerate of others.
Good powerful composition - and you're not unwise to tread carefully, there is so much anti-semitic and anti-muslim rhetoric and, worse, behaviour out there fomented by those who have 'agendas' - when as all right thinking people know, all that really matters is that ordinary people from both sides are experiencing and have experienced horrific suffering - the people to blame are the politicians, warmongers and empire builders - they are the terrorists and they exist on both sides. Look what you started me on now...
A powerful image, Phil. Yes, very sad to see humanity going down so low and see all the suffering of so many innocent people. World wars have long been gone and still many have not learned the lesson.
Nice comment from Mags, from one Star Trek fan to another. But on a more serious note yes, you were right in taking the picture and your words are very well said. There is no right and wrong, both sides need to step back and stop the suffering. Lovely photo too.
