stages of a tulip by quietpurplehaze

stages of a tulip

A tulip in our garden. I love the way tulips definitely close up in the evening and open again the next morning to make a quite different shape. (looks a bit more impressive viewed large!)

All decorating finished - apart from just one photo in a frame to be replaced with another from my collection and today we are meeting friends for lunch. Another lovely sunny day.
Good idea, I might have a go at this. Your tulips are a beautiful colour.

Love the look of velvet Hazel...I think the tulips have loved this dry weather, no nasty winds to knock them over!

Just gorgeous large! Guess I missed most of the decorating story (saw just one)-- how many rooms did you do?

@barbcapecod

Thank you! The little tale about the decorating is under this pic http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/a-few-more/2013-05-05
I had to laugh at your question about the number of rooms. It was only our bedroom but we've never had so many little annoyances decorating before. It probably seems worse to us as we had to have the chimney rebuilt because of a bit of damp and that took 2+ weeks instead of 3 days because of various hiccups! So we were already in the mindset of things going wrong.

@happypat

Yes, somehow tulips have been brilliant in spite of the cold weather.

Thanks for views & comments. We used to have a few clumps of this dark tulip but something must have been eating the bulbs (any ideas welcome?) as there are only 2 or 3 left this year.

Dig them out and see what's under the ground! Squirrels may have been munching over the winter. Wait until all the nutrients are sucked back into the bulbs though (when the leaves are all yellow). I put chicken wire over my bulbs until the spring.
