I send you dicentra 'hearts' on World Red Cross Day
My dad was a PoW during WW2. In May 1943 he was in a camp in Italy and wrote in his diary: "As one may gather, the Red Cross parcels we received meant quite a lot to us. I dare not even try to imagine what would have happened to many of us had we not been fortunate enough to receive parcels."
(I was born in 1946 so maybe I owe a bigger debt to the Red Cross than I had realised.)
It was hard to photograph these dicentra flowers and I would liken it to getting a shot of a spider in his web when the camera keeps focusing on the background.
If you view large you may see that the hearts seem to have some condensation in them.....
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Really like your dyptich and I also like these plants, the flowers are so amazing. We had a lovely white one but I think the slugs must have got to it as we don't have it any more!
very nice image and thank you for reminding us that it is World Red Cross Day. We try to support them via their charity shop in Shoreham, closest one to us. My father was a member of the Red Cross and gained certificates which enabled him to serve on a hospital ship during WW2.
Thank you for your comments. I did spend a long time getting these shots but luckily found a handy flat rock near the dicentra so I could at least sit down whilst taking them! Better not mention the getting up afterwards.....
You have done a great job catching these pretty & unusual flowers & a lovely dedication on this special World Red Cross Day which I didn't know about so broadcast the news too!!
A beautiful dyptich of two wonderful pic.`s of this lovely flowers . The spider in the left flower ?
Also a great tribute to the red cross and you great Dad. We own them and him a lot. For the reminder and the nice pic`s, Fav
Thank you for your kind comments and for the fav. I was just comparing the difficulty of taking a shot of these tiny flowers with the difficulty of taking a shot of a spider in a web.(No spider - I double checked after you commented!!)
It's a fascinating plant. I've been wondering if my neighbour will mind if I crawl about in his front garden photographing his plant. Great choice for Red Cross day.
Floyd, thank you. Think I shall have to start making a list of these names which are all new to me. Tell me, is that actually moisture inside the white strip on the flowers?
This is lovely and such a wonderful sentiment!! I was also born in 1946 and am thankful that my father made it home. I did not know it was Red Cross Day...and these blooms represent it very well! FAV!
Thank you. Very worthwhile work that your father did.
Thank you Wendy. We seem to have just this one plant this year. The flowers have only been open a few days.
Thank you - you have yours to look forward to!
Thanks! What a pain these slugs are!

Thank you for your comment and I think I'll know them as blessing hearts now - very appropriate.
Thanks, Hazel. I didn't want to give up!
Graham, thank you.
Elisabeth, thanks for stopping by and your comment.
Thank you, Pat. I only knew about it from the word of the day and just felt I had to give my dad a mention too.

He probably wouldn't mind. Could you do it surreptitiously?!
Oooo never heard of that! Would that be a Suffolk one?

Thanks, Floyd, and oh my goodness!
Thanks for your appreciation and the fav!
Thanks and I learnt they can be called blessed hearts.
Dave, thank you.
Thanks for the appreciation and the fav!
Thank you, Gena, for your comments and for the fav. Where was your father in WW2?
Irene, thank you. We only have one stalk of these where there used to be two. I think the long hard winter has spoilt lots of plants.
