The first frost of the winter here in Hampshire has finally brought the birds to the bird feeder. This morning I saw blackbirds, a robin, starlings and a blue tit.
They all seem to only like the fat balls which I suppose in bird terms could be the equivalent of human chips and crisps?!
The peanuts we put out originally went mouldy so have been thrown away.
I have two loads of washing on the line and have given Jinks a bath, no mean feat and everything has to be prepared in advance as he hates it and is not too co-operative. One good point I realised is that the old jeans I put on to do it (I always get soaked to the skin too) are a pair I had years ago -and they still fit me!!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
A superb capture of Mrs. Blackbird. I too had birds flocking to the peanuts this morning but my clothes line is in the way I will have to rearrange a few things in the garden at least it has stopped raining.
Amazing shot Hazel. Great. Focus on its eyes. The terrier that I used to have wasn't too fond of baths either. Every time he got out he was on a mission to shake water all over me.
A beautiful shot Hazel -no frost here but have seen a few birds -- but nothing stops for too long !! You have had a busy morning --bathing ALFIE is a two man job these days as I can not hold him with my (poorly) right arm !! I suppose I could leave it to Gary to do !! he has done it before now !!
Many thanks for interest in my blackbird. I wrapped Jinks securely in a towel to take him upstairs to dry him with the hairdryer (I know, I know!) and he then shook his head spraying water all over my face.
@quietpurplehaze haha, yes I use a hair dryer on the small dogs too. Not on the lab though. I would be there all day. It sounds like Jinks got his revenge by spraying you :)
Lovely shot Hazel! I put out sunflower kernels and all the birds seem to love them especially Goldfinches. Round here nothing ever eats peanuts for some reason! I tend to just use the sunflowers and fat balls this time of year.
Hope Jinks has recovered from his bath.
He's snoozing on the bed!

Kerry, I hate to mention this but I have a sneaking suspicion that they used to be on the generous side!!!!!!!!!
Hehe - for jeans, I mean!
Thank you for the tips - other people have said that peanuts are not popular. (Would love some goldfinch shots!)
