Today's assignment...

Well, I got the battery for the new drill charged up and when I looked at the instructions for the assembly of compost tumbling bin I bought, it doesn't call for putting in screws that way, and actually came with an Allen wrench and a spanner. (The bin was made in Autstralia, hence the term spanner rather than wrench.)
I knew i had heard that term before but couldn't recall what it is so thanks for telling us. Nice they included the tools to do the job. I will see if I can find something around my house that need to be drilled. Neat phhoto of you project. Will we see it assembled?

Cool! I thought about getting one of those. I'll be interested to know how you like it.

Terrifically resourceful and “green” of you.

We call it an Allen key down under. Happy building

We'd call it an Allen key too. Never heard to a tumbling compost bin, but I can see the utility! Good luck putting it together!

Looks like a tombola drum. Why do you need a tumbling compost bin ( I'll wait for your answer tomorrow at Pigs!)

We would call it an Allen key. Will try and remember to have a spanner, wrench and Allen key for discussion tomorrow during Pigs.

Fancy you buying an Ozzie composter! As mentioned above, we call it an Allen key, and we also know what a wrench is - though maybe we use it for something different?

Very green!

Good luck!

Allen keys come in sets and are a key (!) component in flat pack assembly here! The discussion of different terms in different places is really interesting!

At least you can fix it and made it ready to use.

I hope you'll report on how much you like it. I have looked at them but never bought one.

first of all I want to thank everyone for their kind comments and interest in this project. I hope to attach the legs and the spindle or axis tomorrow and move it into the yard. Hopefully the rain will allow the move. There will be photos of the finished project. I hope I like it better than my current compost pile. I can't remember to turn it with my pitch fork (where is that thing?), so I have whole looking gourds still sitting in there from last November. This bin also has a divider in the center so there can be a new batch started if one side is filled up.
I think the difference in the name of the tools is another of the "we all speak English, but why can't I understand what you're saying" paradoxes. And in a few months I'll let everyone know if it was worth it.

This is probably something my daughter-in-law would enjoy having. She's quite the vegetable gardener. I am inspired to purchase a drill myself and a level. I'm tired of waiting for hubby to do some of the little things I'd like to get done around the house- like hanging curtain rods!

@olivetreeann Your DIL probably already makes compost somewhere. I have a pile at the back of the yard. But I haven't turned it so not sure what shape it's really in. Perhaps I'll check it when I move this bin back there. The battery operated drills are great, but be sure to lift and turn them before you purchase. I gave away the Dewalt drill my husband had because it was too heavy for me.
