nice that you can get to your mail from the back! Smart on that busy street

You bet 'cha. Sometimes even the back side is too close to the road.

Like I told Katy, this is what we had before. Now we have large clusters of mail boxes in the middle of the block. Everyone has a key to their mailbox.

@shutterbug49 Locked boxes. A good idea. I've put up three mailboxes here each to be hit once. (I've only lived here 5-1/2 years.) You can see this has been put back together with Gorilla tape. Worked so far.

Very cool the way it seems to be standing at attention.

So ready to collect!!

I like this system. Our postmen and women still have to walk right up to the doors of individual houses. I have a new found respect for them since I started delivering our community magazine on a 3-monthly basis. You find out all the hidden doors, the difficult to find letter-boxes and worst of all the letter-boxes that take the skin off your fingers ... without mentioning the dogs behind some of the doors! ;-)

I adore American post boxes. When we visited Vermont about 10 years ago, I followed a post van in our hire car briefly because I loved seeing her reach out of the van and put things in these boxes! She stopped and asked me if I was an inspector! I told her no, just crazy English person who thinks this is so so cool

When we lived in NJ we had to walk to the end of the driveway to get ours, but here in PA we have a central location where everyone picks up their mail from locked post boxes. I miss this kind, because I often drive past the road that leads to the boxes and then remember I needed to get the mail when I get home- haha! I usually end up saying to myself, "Not going back now!" I hope your duct tape continues to do the job- looks pretty good on my screen. (o:

Lovely shot. I don't like mailboxes. In the age of the Internet, only advertisements and official notices reach your inbox.

@taffy I'm glad it's upright. Thanks Taffy.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Yup, it is.
@jamibann I think that the postal people have to deliver so much more these days. I even get my (no longer) daily paper through the mail.
@casablanca isn't this funny? We're so alike and yet so different.
@wakelys Thanks. Too expensive to buy another one if I don't have to.
@kjarn Thanks. Don't really use it much. I'd rather pop mail in the box at the post office.
@craftymeg It is different. Who knew?!
@brillomick In Maine they have the post boxes hanging by a chain of a tall post. When the plows come by, they can go underneath without knocking them over.
@olivetreeann The tape has been working for a number of months. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you.
@haskar Thanks. I do get real mail, including my paper. But you're right about the junk mail.

Neat to see what yours look like. Pretty cool that you can get the mail from the back without having to go around almost into the street.

@mcsiegle Thanks Mary. Yes. I used to have to go across the road. When the box was there, and it was an older one that only opened up from the front (on the road), I realized with the next one I wanted that featured. It wasn't too long before the former one was obliterated.
