I never heard that explanation or excuse from a student, but I couldn’t help but think of that when I discovered why my rowing shell was uncontrollable…
The water level on the lake is so low that the supporting structure of the dock is now exposed (above water). Although I *thought* I was as careful as I could be, my shell was uncontrollable because it no longer had the “fin” (or “skeg,” the fixed rudder under the stern).
Hence: “The dock ate my fin.”
In the photo, there is only clear silicone sealant where the black plastic skeg ought to be. Unfortunately, this occurred as I was leaving the dock, rather than returning to the dock. Replacement part ordered…
