They're e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e!

13- and 17-year cicadas. They're loud. They're a nuisance. And they are everywhere. Yesterday when I was mowing the lawn, I must have pulled a dozen off me. My plant systematics expert identified several different species at his house last month — http://www.phytoimages.siu.edu/cgi-bin/dol/dol_terminal.pl?taxon_name=Magicicada&rank=genus

Some people probably think they're pretty creepy-looking and the red eyes are certainly eye-popping, but I was pretty amazed at the clarity of this shot from my point-and-shoot.
