I think this is a form of “wild lettuce” (possibly genus Lactuca) but I have been unable to get a definitive ID from an expert. (Since they’re “weeds” as far as we are concerned, they get pulled or mowed before they can produce flowers or fruit, which is probably required for a definitive ID.) It was in the yard last year and again this year. Fortunately, they’re easy to pull, but it’s still a lot of bending and squatting.

It's a lovely weed shot! You're right about needing a bloom or seed head to properly ID it. I got a little stool to sit on for some yard work like weeding. It helps the back but it's not so good for the knees. =)
