This evening the dryer switch failed on the last load before we leave to go out of town in the morning. I removed the back panel, but I couldn’t figure out how the switch comes out. YouTube to the rescue!
So here’s the dead switch before I disconnected it.
An online parts seller wants $61 for this switch and there will be $10 shipping on top of that. Found it elsewhere for less than $30 (and free shipping).
In the meantime, I wonder: Can you “hot-wire” a dryer?

2. I googled replacement switch for the model number.
3. Clare checked Amazon for the replacement part number.
Separately, I googled “replace switch whirlpool wed4850hw0” to find the YouTube videos. Then it was just a matter of getting the back panel off with a wrench. If you're determined enough by time or saving $50, you can do it!
When YouTube told me to put a wire hanger or Plumber's snake down the hose I thought no way. I'll let a professional do that. I'll have less to pay for in the long run.
