The grid is 27×37 at the edges, so if every row has 37 pieces and every column has 27 pieces, then the puzzle has 27 × 37 = 999 pieces. When that’s the case, I always try to find the place in the puzzle where they have taken two pieces and made three so that the puzzle has 1,000 pieces.
