Aster

I probably could not have posted this when I started on 365 lo, so many years ago. Back then, I just couldn’t have cropped out part of the subject. But the interesting part of this flower (to me) is the dark-red coloring on the petals at the center, so cropping out the yellow edges is okay.

What flower is it? I’m neither going to hazard a guess, nor trouble anyone to ID it for me. It has been grown from seeds in a seed packet and the packet is long gone. All I would say is that it’s in the Asteraceae (Aster) family. Maybe a “Fiesta daisy” (genus Gaillardia) or a cultivar related to that.

It looks just like the Blackeyed Susans we have here! There are variations of the ones here that have very similar features!

@thewatersphotos I had the same thought about Black-eyed Susans! The seed head in the center looks more like Black-eyed Susan than daisy.

Gloriosa Daisy “Fancy Black Eyed Susan” I did google it because inquiring minds want to know. I understand the comments about composition.

@randystreat Not confident enough that it’s a “genuine” Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta). If not, I’m thinking it is *very* likely a commercial cultivar derived *from* R. hirta.
