Walking on the Roaches by roachling

Walking on the Roaches

Even though it was freezing cold and very windy, and the sky overcast, so poor light for photography, I went out for a short walk on the Roaches today and took quite a few photos. I didn't take this one myself - I'm in it! - but I liked this one as it gives a good idea of the landscape.

The furthest outcrop you can see is Hen Cloud, as seen in yesterday's photo and I'm standing on the main part of the Roaches, called Five Clouds. It was so windy up there that a gust of windy almost blew me over the edge at one point (in a different spot to where I'm standing here) and boy was it cold - the temperature didn't make it above zero degrees C before we factor in wind chill - but it was great to be out and at Home :)

Great capture of such spectacular scenary, and of course yourself! What a great place you live in with all that nature around you to explore. Well done for braving the elements today, it was cold and dull here.

Great sense of space and scale.

It looks like a climb to that point and good idea to get in the shot to like you say illustrate it.

@mfurness
It is a climb but it's not a difficult one at all - (unless you take a non tourist path and make it so!). I rather wish I wasn't in this shot, it wasn't planned, Dave just snapped me standing there but I thought this one had the best balance of rocks on the left and views to the right - or at least what views there were with the poor visibility.

Lovely collection of images.

I quite like you being in the shot - gives a sense of scale. Looks like a really good walk and I bet the wind was actually rather refreshing!

Love the roaches.

Your inclusion in the foreground is essential to the composition and sense of scale. Careful of the wind!

Looks like you are on top of the world Louise!

Nice! Looks like a sly reference to Friedrich's "Wanderer" to me.

@automaticslim
does it? I'll have to go and google that as I've never heard of him/it!
January 14th, 2013
You'll know it when you see it! Caspar David Friedrich, if that helps.

@automaticslim
I've just typed Friedrich's wander in and found it straight away - I see what you mean! His landscape is much more dramatic though!

Well, to be fair he had Alps to play with (and a fevered imagination).
