A very local church.

This signpost always makes me smile - it is such a Stanthorpe concept!!
In old villages here, pub is always opposite the church

I have been to a Vineyard church in the USA. Brilliant people and yes, the concept always makes me smile too!

The name comes from the Bible (New Testament) where Jesus refers to Himself as the Vine and the people who follow Him as the branches- hence each church is like a vineyard producing the fruit of faith so to speak. It's a very popular movement among Christians with a style of worship that involves lots of singing with contemporary music/instruments. I'm not sure where it started but I think it was Australia. Now I'll have to go look in my Christian/Church history books to see if my memory is serving me correctly. Good catch.

@olivetreeann @taffy I've certainly learned something new too, all very interesting.

@olivetreeann Thanks so much for all of this info Ann - I didn't realize that they even existed elsewhere. They do indeed have lots of singing - they organize concerts by all sorts of choirs and international touring singing groups - very community orientated.

This reminds me of my great uncle, a wonderful chap who would say he was going to church, we all knew it was the pub

@suzanne234 I've often said the same about the golf course.
