The dry dock - still being used.

This area can be flooded with water to allow boats to be brought into the dock area. It is then drained and the hulls supported on timber stands. Ladders are also used to allow workmen to access the internal structures from the walkway above the dock area. These two ships were from the era of the fortress and were being renovated inside and maintained on the outside.
It must be quite a challenge to maintain very old boats and stop them deteriorating.

I always enjoy a dry dock. So interesting to see the parts of the boat you don't normally see below the waterline.
