This is the first photo I've ever taken with an SLR camera - but it's a Nikon D70 converted into an IR camera. I know it's not great but it's pretty exciting for me - and many thanks go to FB @fbailey for her continued encouragement and help. I think it's going to be great fun to play with - and I might even learn how to use an SLR camera properly.....
@fr1da Hi Frida - yes - the camera I bought can only be used to take I R photos - but from the couple of shots I've tried it seems that you can get a wide range of results from it. :)
@fbailey Woohoo FB - heavens knows what will happen but i"m sure it's going to be interesting. I've actually downloaded the manual!! And started reading it! Thanks again for all your encouragement - I never would have got started without you! Cheers Rob.
@caterina I think it might prove very interesting Caterina - I've only tried a couple of shots - you seem to get a range of results - some pretty bad!! Lol. :)
@jgpittenger Lol Jane - I wish I was confident as you .... They are heavy though aren't they - and they don't fit in your pocket very well...and they do have a LOT of dials and numbers.... Good for getting rid of the cobwebs from the brain I guess! :)
@golftragic Thanks for your lovely vote of confidence Marnie - I wish I was feeling more confident - I had another play today - took some dreadful shots. And I found out that it can do some really weird stuff when you try to edit it!!! :)
@robz I think of it as brain exercise! I did start off with a community college class though and that helped. You are right re nor fitting in your pocket...but I figure carrying it is good for my osteoporosis!
@robz That's more than I've ever done! I kept mine on his suggested settings for ages, they seem to work just fine. I know you will thoroughly enjoy your IR adventures and am v much looking forward to following your journey:)
@jgpittenger LOL Jane - you put up very good arguments for a "big girl" camera - and I have just been advised to go to specific osteoporosis fitness classes! This will be a good starting point I think - and it has used up all my "Birthday/Mother's Day" dollars from the kids - it seems that camera gear can be quite expensive. Will have to see how it all goes. Cheers Rob :)
@fbailey Thanks FB - Like you I left it as he had it set up - but it seemed to do weird stuff with highlights - a bright teal blue! He mentioned something in his notes so I've changed to a -3 (I think it was 3!) exposure bias and it seems to be better. So much fun to play around with!! :)
@robz If you get bright blue highlights try changing the f stop. f8 is great for bright sunshine but for greyer days I drop to 5.6 or lower. Do you preset your White Balance to a tarmac road setting or leave as is? I knew you'd have great fun:)
@fbailey I think he has preset the WB - he commented on it in his notes - but I will have a look and check. Thanks for the hint about the f stop - I tried a few today with the -3 exp bias so if that hasn't worked ( or it's too dark) I'll have a go with the 5.6. And you are right - it is so much fun!! :)
