Shot Tower by robz

Shot Tower

This is the only shot tower in the world which allows visitors to climb up the wooden circular staircase to the very top. It was built in the late 1800's and used to produce shot gun pellets. The lead ingots were carried to the very top, melted in a furnace and then poured through a colander to produce molten drops. The drops fell through the height of the tower and solidified into a trough of water at the bottom. This photo was taken at about the half way point, looking down.
Your information is so interesting, all that work to produce pellets, pretty ingenious for the time. Great shot looking down

@fbailey Hi F.B. - Going up wasn't too bad for the knees - going down was awful! It was worth it to see the top though. :)Cheers Rob

@cruiser Thanks Chris - What was a worry was that some of the steps were quite thin boards!! :) Thanks for your nice comment!
