Yachting in Malta saw its beginning in the 1960’s when Malta was diversifying its economy from one dependent on military activity to one based on peaceful use. Because of Malta’s strategic position at the centre of the Mediterranean together with its beautiful natural harbours and favourable climate, yachting soon became a corner-stone in Malta’s maritime touristic activities. Several marinas have been constructed to take any size of yachts, from very large to small yachts, providing all amenities and a professional work force to serve yacht owners. There are currently a great number of berthing spaces but demand for more berths have regularly exceeded availability.
