Four brave Maltese nationals made history on 3rd October, 2011 when they conquered Mount Snowdon. The group was formed of 2 males and 2 females. They climbed to the summit station sitting comfortably in the cabin of the mountain railway at a price f £50 p.p. At the summit station, the two females, alas, had to give up because they were afraid of the wind, cold and rain outside, so they prefered to stay inside enjoying a coffee while lounging at the restaurant of the summit station. The 2 brave males did not give up: they went out to face the elements and climb the remaining 60 feet on foot. A third member of the team had to give up 3 feet from the summit because the peak was already overcrowded and also because he was afraid of being blown away by the very strong winds; but the last heroic member groped his way through the remaining 3 feet to plant the Maltese flag on the summit – that’s him, with camera in hand.
What a feat, that was haha. The two who stopped at the station were my wife and daughter, I stopped two steps from the summit, but Ian did not stop before he took a photo right at the very top. Weather conditions were stunning – have been on a few mountains before, many much higher, but have never seen anything like this : the wind was blowing surely not less than 70mph, visibility was next to nothing (you couldn’t see more than 5 metres away) and the mist got into your hair and through your cloths so that by the time we got back to the shelter of the station my head looked as if I had taken a shower.
By the way the flag and pole were my creation through photoshop.
hehehehe - we conquered it the lazy way as I have many friends that walked up and back down. A proper ascent is now in my "to-do" list. I just posted a shot of the summit to proof we did not spoil it with a flag

@ivb I think it would be a beautiful adventure to go up there on foot and brave those strong wind currents. But for my age, I would have loved to try it though there were older guys walking up that place.
